The Power Of Positive Thinking

This poem is taken from a book by Napolean Hill.

If you think you are beaten, you are

If you think you dare not, you don’t

If you like to win, but you think you can’t

It is almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost

For out of the world we find

Success begins with a fellow’s will

It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are out-classed, you are

You’ve got to think high to rise

You’ve got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go

To the stronger  or faster man

But soon or late the man who wins

Is the MAN WHO THINKS HE CAN!

Orang kampung goes for warm stone massage

Aug 14
1 Comment

I finally found 2 hours for me, myself and I yesterday, so I thought I’d better spend it wisely. So, I called up the place where I used to pamper myself years back.. Back then I thought my work was too demanding and stressful, so I’d reason out the quite pricely service to do facial or massage.. Now that I have moved on & got another job which is far stressing me out at times, I managed to escape the “false” need to have a monthly visit there. Call it “false” now rather than a “necessity” then because I feel that I understand the value of money a lot better now compared to few years back.. Let’s save that story for another post..

Back to the “false” heaven, there I was at 1330 going thru a list of massage packages to pick from. The girl or beauty consultant, as they call themselves, kept on promoting “warm stone massage”.. Being a typical orang kampung, I asked “you really massage using stones? U sure it does not have side effects? Wouldn’t those stones scratch my skin surface?” The poor girl explained that it won’t have all the reactions which I have mentioned.. She said that people go for this massage for slimming reasons and its good for people who suffer from back pain.. Again, being a skeptical orang kampung, I was telling myself, I’ve never heard of kampung people being massaged using stones.. Can’t even imagine.. Few minutes later.. I chose that package…

The massage started with a back massage and it was done without stone.. As explained by the beauty consultant earlier, the masseur really focused on the spine.. About 30 mins later, the warm stones came in.. The stones were nothing I’ve imagined before.. Poor orang kampung.. Those stones used were not ordinary ones like the ones we find at roadsides.. hehe.. They were of smooth surface and you won’t even know that they are indeed stones if you were not told initially. It was really not bad at all.. After the back massage, the warm stones were then used to massage the abdomen par. It felt a bit painful, coz I think my stomach was cramped due to me skipping my lunch.. I was told by the masseur that warm stones massage is also useful for people with wind..

3 hours later..

I was in and out of washroom – why?? Diarrhoea!! My husband was worried.. told him I had nothing in my tummy & I don’t have any idea how I end up my one hour session in the washroom..

Then I figured out that this was the result of the warm stone massage..  Despite my tiring one hour session, I feel that my body is “lighter” than ever.. Is this a “false” feeling again?? Let’s see..

However, due to the price of the service, I cannot afford weekly visit as suggested by the masseur. The most I can do is a bi-monthly visit.. Let’s see if I can afford another session after Raya…

How To Be Happy (my version)

This is my recipe for happiness at work..

1. Define happiness in your own words.
Eg. What I would do is check my calendar & check on plans for the week.
What has this got to do with definition of happiness?
Happiness at work to me is to be able to execute all planned works ahead of schedule with best quality
before this reaches my boss for his comments. Happiness is also being able to enjoy while at work & able
to cope with any unplanned or adhoc assignments. Not happy with your boss? This is out of question because
the definition of happiness here covers the areas under your control only. Be nice to your boss. Really. That
will help boost your motivation level and at the same time contributes 5% to your happiness. Trust this especially
when it comes from a person who has undergone 6 different bosses from different planets of the universe (that’s me)!

2. Preparation
Eg. Now that you now what happiness means (TO YOU), do your best preparation to achieve whatever you have defined in Item 1. My way of doing this is to have a clear vision of what is expected of me. Of course things do not come easy. Not all assignments are pieces of cake however most of them are pieces of shXX. Tackle problems one by one.
Get started even if you have no clue on what you’re supposed to do. ASK people around you – ask your boss, your
colleague, your spouse, your friend, or simply whoever you need if you require additional information. Go extra mile. Read a lot about something before asking or you’ll end up feeling stupid of not knowing what to ask.

Keep yourself FOCUSED. Focus is the key. Having problems to focus? I used to take Pharmaton (this is not a commercial) but I have now switched to Chicken Essence first thing in the morning. But, not to forget, before even taking this, EXERCISE! This helps a lot to keep your energy level at an optimum level the whole day & exercising makes you feel better inside out. Kenapa, tak percaya?? Try it out!

3. Execute
Now that you have a superb preparation, its time to GO FOR IT. Head for whatever assignment you have – meeting to get some approval from some big shots, presentation, college assignment or exams, name it! With superb, not justadequate preparation, you are now ready to take any challenge.. All set to go! While at execution stage, do not
leave your supplement + exercise behind. Please.. You really need them especially at this time!

This is what I practice & believe, it works for me. To be happy, everything has to come from within – a good heart
& a straight and focused mind. Be good to people & things around you & never ever expect anything in return.

Afterall, when you wake up every morning, you only have 2 choices – be happy or be miserable. What’s your choice??

Raining -> cold -> hibernate

It has been raining for weeks in Miri, in particular.
What do you do when it rains? Especially when in never stops raining??
The low temperature somehow puts my body (to incline) to sleep mode.. But I tried to make myself useful at least to myself. I’ve been gathering thoughts putting the best laid plans for The Resolution – 2009 Version 1.0. Got them in place after series of New Year celebs – the Maal Hijrah, the Gregorian New Year and the most recently Chinese New Year.. This year’s resolution seems harder to be planned, not really on the planning part but on the “committing” part.. I’m quite skeptical to put something which I couldn’t or rather wouldn’t dare to reach. Or is it just the negative wave working on be?? Come on, be positive!! I’m trying and trying to be positive.. or just be one..

what’s with KL taxi drivers??

I am a usual taxi passenger in the mornings whenever I’m in KL simply because I do not wish to be crammed in massive human jams if I chose LRT. And did not mind paying extra even when I clearly know that taxis in KL were supposed to be insisted on using meters. Paying extra for my usual route, MidValley to Jalan Semarak would mean forking out extra RM5 or RM6 when the cost to travel IF the taxi used meter is supposed to be in the range of RM 11 to RM15, depending on traffic jam. So on my frequent morning travels from Midvalley to Jalan Semarak, I was obliged to pay RM20.

So I was in KL again last week, on the same route for three mornings in a row. On the first day, the taxi driver softly said RM25 to me for that route. I was rather upset and told him, “Mister, I’m not boarding your taxi if you’re charging me more than RM20. That is the usual amount I pay to get me to where I need to be, and if you’re not willing to accept, I’ll wait for the next cab..” I’m not quite a rude person, but I must admit that I come from a family which appreciates being straightforward and honest. The taxi driver looked upset but somehow said “RM20 hah? Ok lah”.. But right after that, I almost regreted what I did. I felt that the taxi driver was purposely driving me to my destination recklessly that I thought I could have been killed on my way to my destination. (I thought and I believe) He purposely swerved the taxi recklessly at cornerings, jumping queues, honking other people like crazy, and he really looked angry (to me, I think). I was sitting very quietly at the rear passenger seat, quietly praying, “I don’t why to die now.. not in his hands…” At last after a 30 mins of life threatening experience, I was at my destination, and the taxi driver looked back at me and said “actually, nobody is willing to bring you here if you insist on meter; and your RM20 is not worth the distance and jam”.. I actually wanted to say “what makes you say that?? The petrol price has dropped for the 5th or 6th or 7th time, and your taxi is not even on petrol!! You’re on the very cheap NGV and you don’t even bother to at least appreciate that you have a passenger (customer) now!!” I just wanted to say that but I didn’t. It was just not worth it. So I handed him his not-worth-it RM20 bill, said “thank you” (for not getting killed) and board off the taxi. I thought I wanted to lodge a complaint to KPDN or is it the right dept to talk to, but after a long day at work, I just said to myself “maybe that guy has family problems.. or just one of his bad days.. or whatever.. “.. God bless Malaysia’s “budi bahasa budaya kita..”

A hope for a better tomorrow

Have you ever done a deep thought on what is happening to you and your surroundings? I wish I could be very highly  motivated and positive every single day of my life. Though people around me always complain, why are you always reading endless motivational books? Guess what, I need them, still have my bad days even:p But I guess the Almighty has given all of us the opportunity to look back and reflect and start fresh everyday. And that’s what I keep on reminding myself..

Everything around us sometimes makes us tired to move on. I really don’t like it when my husband starts his politics chat with his friends – keep on asking him is it worth his time complaining and commenting on politicians. I’m just tired of reading about people fighting over for power. Now who should be taking care of the people? Our economy? The future of our country? That is the reason why I do not like reading newspapers. Its really full of negativity. Killings, protests – practically in every corner of the world. Enough with things which we do not have control. You may have thought, why bother about all this when you have had enough of your problems of your own. The career which you may hate, family problems – teenagers who simply won’t listen when we are actually trying to make them see and realize that what they are doing is simply worthless.. I remembered a dialogue in Gol & Gincu, “Saya yang buta, tak nampak..” But why blind your thinking when somebody out there is actually trying to help you see… Oh, please…. God help me…

So when we wake up every morning, please do not forget to thank God that we’re still around (alive). Everyone of us is here for a mission. Pray for a better day each day. Pray for a better place for every human kind to live in. Pray that we will have the strength to be successful in whatever we do. Pray that we will be in the capacity to help others. Remember that everyday is a new day in our lives. There is no problem that we cannot solve as long as we are willing to face it with a sober mind.

“When you feel like hope is gone, look inside you and be strong, and you’ll finally see the truth, that a HERO lies in you…”
